Expert Analysis
Clarissa Richardson | Prep Gymnastics Scout
Lily Westling brings the kind of composure and consistency that can make her a standout piece of a college bars lineup. The reigning National Champion on the event, Lily posted a season-high 9.75 at exactly the right time, showing that she has the ability to rise to the occasion when the pressure is at its highest. That championship performance is a reflection of the confidence she brings to the event and her ability to deliver when it matters most. Her routine is filled with clean, precise gymnastics, highlighted by a Maloney, bail to handstand, and beautifully vertical handstands that give the routine a polished, controlled look. She finishes with a full-out dismount, and perhaps most impressively, she has the ability to find the stick at the end of it. That combination of difficult skills, strong handstand positions, and controlled landings gives Lily the kind of complete bars package that can make an immediate impact in a college lineup. With a National title already to her name and the ability to thrive under pressure, Lily is exactly the type of bars worker you want when the stakes are highest.

Lily Westling enters her sophomore season with an impressive résumé already in place, having posted a 38.00 at Regionals last season and earning gold in her age division. Consistency is one of her biggest strengths, particularly on beam, where she competes a difficult back handspring-back handspring-layout triple series with confidence. Westling is also continuing to build on that foundation with upgrades including a front aerial to scale and aerial-ring jump on beam. Across the rest of her lineup, she is training a Yurchenko 1.5 on vault, a full-twisting double layout dismount on bars, and a full-in and 1.5-front full on floor. After such a strong debut season, Westling looks ready to take another step forward as a sophomore.

Lily Westling is an elegant and artistic beam specialist whose combination of difficulty, precision, and presentation makes her an exciting athlete to watch. Her routine features a unique mount, a beautiful back handspring to layout step-out, a front aerial to split jump to beat jump series, a wolf 1.5 turn, an aerial, and a round-off to 1.5 dismount. Westling’s stunning artistry, elegant lines, and graceful movement quality allow her to stand out on the event, while her difficulty continues to grow with skills like a back handspring-back handspring-layout triple series already in her repertoire. As she enters her sophomore year, Westling continues to push her routine forward with upgrades such as an aerial to ring jump and front aerial to scale. With her blend of artistry, consistency, and increasing difficulty, she is a beam prospect to follow closely.

Lily had an impressive freshman year which finished with her as the National Champion on bars. Every handstand was hit in this routine and it was capped with a stuck full twisting double tuck dismount.
Lily was also the Region 2 Champion on beam. Her lines are stunning and precise all the way through her toe point. Her back handspring, back handspring, layout stepout is executed effortlessly and with precision. But, don’t let her graceful gymnastics fool you. She also brings the power with her Yurchenko full on vault and a double tuck on floor.
Lily is an impressive athlete to watch on all four events and will continue to do big things during her sophomore season and beyond.
