Expert Analysis
Clarissa Richardson | Prep Gymnastics Scout
Aria Smith brings a combination of power, personality, and confident execution that could make her a valuable asset to Arkansas gymnastics. On bars, her impressively high Ray stands out, showcasing her amplitude and ability to make difficult skills look effortless. Her Yurchenko full on vault features an open body line and a controlled, easy landing, adding another strong event to her repertoire. Floor is where Aria’s athleticism and personality really come together, with her double layout serving as a highlight while her performance quality keeps the routine engaging from start to finish. On beam, she attacks her skills with conviction, and her back handspring to layout floats above the beam with impressive height and control. She caps off the routine with a powerful round-off to double tuck dismount. With her dynamic skill set and engaging presence, Aria has plenty to offer the Razorbacks’ future lineups!

Smith’s Yurchenko 1.5 already has the look of a college-ready vault, combining impressive power with exceptional body control. She generates tremendous lift off the table, giving herself plenty of height and rotation while maintaining a fully extended position through the post-flight. Rather than folding or losing her shape as she moves through the vault, Smith stays long and controlled, creating a clean, powerful line from the table through the landing.
What makes the vault especially impressive is the combination of amplitude and extension. Smith generates the power to not only complete the 1.5 twist, but also has extra power on the landing. The result is a Yurchenko 1.5 with the kind of height, shape, and power that immediately stands out and gives her a strong vaulting foundation as she continues to develop.

Aria Smith has already established herself as one of the strongest all-around competitors in the country, placing third at Nationals last season with an impressive 38.1. The powerful all-arounder has made official visits to Arkansas and Nebraska so far, giving both programs a closer look at what she could bring to their lineups. Smith is a powerhouse gymnast who makes big skills look effortless. Her Barani-double tuck, double layout, and full-twisting double layout on floor showcase her impressive power, while her Hindorff in training flies over the bar with plenty of height. Her Yurchenko 1½ already looks NCAA-ready, and on beam, she’s refining an already clean back handspring-layout series and double-tuck dismount while adding new skills like a straddle jump-front tuck. Whether Smith eventually entertains crowds at Bud Walton Arena, the Bob Devaney Sports Center, or another college arena, she’s a recruit who looks poised to make an impact wherever she lands.
