Some floor routines grab your attention with one big skill. Caroline McMurtrie's has a way of pulling you in before she even gets there. Coming off her second Level 10 season, McMurtrie has developed an exceptional performance quality that makes her gymnastics feel like a complete presentation rather than simply a series of skills. From the opening moments of her routines, she brings an energy and confidence that makes you want to keep watching.

That quality is especially evident on floor, where McMurtrie has established herself as a gymnast who can make an entire routine memorable. Last season, she combined a front double full, 1.5 to front pike, and front Rudi, bringing impressive tumbling while maintaining the performance quality that has become such a defining part of her gymnastics. She understands how to use choreography, expression, and timing to draw the audience into the routine, creating a performance that feels distinctly her own.

And McMurtrie is not finished building that routine. Her training this season includes a double pike, 1.5 to front layout, triple full, double Arabian, and full-in. The amount of difficulty she is working toward is impressive on its own, but the real intrigue comes from imagining those skills paired with the performance ability she already possesses. She has the potential to bring tremendous difficulty to an event where she already knows how to make an impression.

The rest of McMurtrie's gymnastics brings plenty of power as well. Her front handspring front tuck on vault has tremendous amplitude and explosiveness, while bars features a blind change to Jaeger that flies above the bar before flowing into a bail and double tuck dismount. She is also training a double-layout dismount on bars, continuing to add difficulty to an event that already has plenty of potential.

Beam gives her another opportunity to showcase that combination of athleticism and control. She is working a front toss to back handspring connection and back handspring to 1.5 dismount, giving the routine additional difficulty while continuing to expand her options across the lineup.

But floor remains where McMurtrie truly separates herself. There is an entertainment factor to her gymnastics that cannot be captured by a list of skills. She performs with the kind of natural confidence that makes the audience feel involved, and she knows how to build a routine rather than simply move through it. When the tumbling begins, the athleticism is obvious, but it never takes away from the personality and presentation that make the routine memorable.

After two Level 10 seasons, McMurtrie is entering an exciting stage of her development. She already has the performance quality to make an impact, and now she is pairing that strength with an increasingly ambitious skill set. If she continues bringing those two pieces together, floor is an event where she could truly shine in a college lineup.

Caroline McMurtrie has the rare ability to make you remember not just what she did, but how she made you feel while watching it. Add in her power, growing difficulty, and experience at Level 10, and she has the makings of a gymnast who could bring something special to the next level, particularly when she steps onto the floor.
