Region 8 Athlete of the Month: Lila Mendicino

Lila Mendicino checks both boxes. With polished execution, excellent technique, and a confident presence across multiple events, she has developed into one of Region 8's most intriguing recruiting prospects heading into her final club season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Beam is where Mendicino truly shines. She moves with confidence and efficiency from skill to skill, giving her routine a polished, collegiate feel. Her repertoire includes a front aerial, back handspring to layout stepout, switch leap to switch leap, and a roundoff to 1½-twisting dismount. Combined with her rhythm, clean execution, and ability to attack every element with confidence, beam has become one of her signature events and one that should draw the attention of college coaches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On floor, Mendicino is an exceptional twister whose clean lines and body position allow her tumbling to stand out. Her current routine features a front Rudi, front layout to front full connection, and a 1½ twist, showcasing both power and technical precision. She continues to build on that foundation with a double tuck currently in training, adding another dynamic pass to an already impressive routine.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bars continues to trend upward as well. Mendicino competes a giant ½ to bail and a double tuck dismount with clean fundamentals and efficient swing mechanics. Her development on the event has been especially encouraging, with a Gienger release, full pirouette to double tuck dismount, and bail to handstand all currently in training, giving her the potential to significantly elevate her start value.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>She is also making exciting progress on vault, where a Yurchenko full is in training, looking promising for competition this season.
